K.S Chitra Wiki: Krishnan Nair Shantakumari Chithra, known as K. S. Chithra or simply Chithra, is a playback singer from Kerala, Southern part of India. Chithra sings a variety of songs such as  Indian classical, devotional, and popular music. She has a record of  singing more than 25,000 Songs in a different  languages such as Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Bengali, Oriya, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tulu, Urdu, Sanskrit and Badaga not only but also she has sung in many  Foreign languages such as Malay, Latin, Arabic, Sinhalese, and English. Biography of K.S. Chithra

Chitra was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, into a musicians family, her father,  Krishnan Nair, was her first teacher. Her sister K. S. Beena and her younger brother K. Mahesh are also singers. Chithra was trained in Carnatic music from Dr. K. Omanakutty. From 1978 to 1984, she was selected to the National Talent Search Scholarship from the Central Government.

Chithra was introduced by M. G. Radhakrishnan in 1979.S he has sung a number of songs for the composer S. P. Venkatesh and with K. J. Yesudas and  G. Sreekumar who were her co-singers. She has won the Kerala State Awards for the record 16 times most by any person.

Chithra made her debut in the Tamil film industry by the film Neethana Antha Kuyil in 1985 through the song Poojaikketha Poovithu composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Chithra married Vijayashankar and settled in Chennai. They had a daughter Nandana, who was born with down syndrome disease. Nandana died in a pool accident in Dubai in 2011.
